A History of the Communist Party of Australia, 1970-91: Australian National University-SEARCH Foundation PhD Scholarship
The ANU School of History invites applications for a PhD scholarship to research the history of the Communist Party of Australia, 1970-91. The scholarship is the result of a generous donation to the ANU by the SEARCH Foundation. The project is intended to continue the research undertaken by the late Professor Stuart Macintyre AO FASSA FAHA (1947-2021), which resulted in The Reds: the Communist Party of Australia from Origins to Illegality (1998) and The Party: the Communist Party of Australia from heyday to reckoning (2022).
This scholarship is for ‘top-up’ funding of $100,000 (to be released in four instalments of $25,000 per annum) over the course of the student’s candidature, and it is therefore subject to the applicant applying successfully for admission to the PhD degree and for a PhD scholarship, domestic or international, through the usual processes.
The University deadlines for full PhD applications in this round are:
- International Students: 31 August 2025
- Domestic Students: 31 October 2025.
Applicants will need to apply for Doctor of Philosophy, Research School of Social Sciences - ANU by the above-stated deadlines and select Semester 1 2026 intake.
There is no separate application for the scholarship. Your PhD application will be automatically considered for all available scholarships.
